Stony Brook University Hospital Administration
The Stony Brook Hospital Administration fellowship program is designed to provide the Fellow with significant exposure to hospital management and operations. As an active member of the senior executive group, the Fellow has the opportunity to attend a variety of administrative, medical, and board meetings and to work with administrators at all levels within the organization. During the first year, the Fellow gains insight to the complexity of an Academic Medical Center through structured departmental rotations.

QUALIFICATIONS: MHA, MBA, MHA/MBA or related advanced degree required from an accredited graduate program. The fellowship position can serve as the remaining requirement for a graduate degree if all didactic coursework has been completed. The candidate must possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Application Requirements: Please submit the following: cover letter, resume, one-page personal statement, graduate school transcript, and 3 letters of recommendation. Lean Program Facilitator
The North Bronx Healthcare Network (NBHN) (Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital) is one of the first Networks of the Health & Hospitals Corporation to implement the Lean management approach. The Lean approach focuses on continuous quality improvement by relentlessly eliminating waste from work processes. Lean processes increase efficiency, eliminate error, and contribute to safer patient care and greater patient satisfaction.

The Lean Program Facilitators will be serving as Lean Ambassadors for the Network. They will provide logistical support to the Chief Transformation Officer, responsible for coordinating the rapid improvement events and guiding improvement teams by utilizing the Lean techniques and tools. In addition they will be following up with the process owners and past team members to ensure the sustainability of improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with a major in business administration, health administration, public administration, or related field, and, 6 years of progressively responsible administrative/management experience; or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Fellowship Opportunity:
VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network Fellowship
To all alumni,

The Department of Veteran Affairs is accepting applications for an administrative Fellow for their VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network in 2009.

The VA Desert Pacific Healthcare is a network that is dedicated to provide healthcare services to America's veterans. The network comprised of five health systems: VA Greater Los Angeles, VA San Diego, VA Long Beach and Southern Nevada.

In the fellowship program, the fellow with report to the Network Director and the Newtwork Operations Officer. The mentoring experience our program offers will result in the fellow forming the relationships, knowledge, and skills needed to develop his or her personal leadership style.

The one year program will begin in July, the date is negotiable. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and provide a copy of his or her resume, two letters of reccomendation (one from the applicant's department/program chair), and official copy of the applicant's graduate transcripts by Febrary 1, 2009.

Children's Memorial Hospital
To all alumni members,

Children's Memorial Hospital is offering a one-year, postgraduate Admisitrative Fellowship Program. The hospital is a free-standing academic pediatric medical center located in Chicago, Illinois. The hospital is aligned with 1,100 pediatric specialists focusing on more than 70 specialties in 13 locations.

The postgraduate fellowship program focuses on pediatric healthcare issues. The administrative fellow will work closely with the senior leadership team of the hospital addressing operational and strategic initiatives. The objectives of the administrative fellowship include:

- Postgraduate training, experimental learning, and professional growth
- Contribution to the organization through specific assignments and responsibilities

Duke University Health System Fellowship
To all alumni members,

The Duke Revenue Cycle and Financial Management Fellowship Program offers individuals with an MHA, MPH, MBA, or Masters in Accounting from an accredited program (AUPHA, CAHME, AACSB), a comprehensive learning opportunity in an academic center.

The program is housed within the Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) which is the centralized billing and collections office for the entire Duke Health System. Formed in 2001, the PRMO focuses on streamlining the revenue cycle through enhanced management of Scheduling, Registration, Coding, Reinbursement, Billing, Collections, Managed Care Contracting, and Customer Service. The two year fellowship program is designed to provide in-depth experience and knowledge of how revenue cycle financial mangement functions at all levels across the health system.

Fellows will follow a structures rotation schedule the first year, and then may tailor their second year to their professional goals and interests. Graduates encounter many opportunies for employment upon graduation.

David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship
To all alumni members,

The objective of the David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship is to provide an opportunity for recent graduates to learn about healthcare policy development through direct exposure to public and private secot decison-makers in health policy Washington, DC.

The program includes exposure to organizations, associations, and coalitions in the private sector, as well as policy development centers in the Congress and Administration. The Fellowship begins with three months of orientation visits to key policy development centers in Washington and the surrounding areas. During the remaining nine months, Fellows complete a full-time placement that allows them to gain first-hand experience in policy making and explore current issues in depth.

Moses Cone Health System Fellowship
To all alumni members,

The Moses Cone Health System is accepting applications for its 2009-2011 Post-Graduate Fellowship Program.

Moses Cone is known regionally and nationally as a leader and innovator in the health care field, and as the preferred provider in its market. Their integrated delivery system consists of five hospitals, two ambulatory care centers, outpatient rehab centers, and primary and specialty physican practices.

The Moses Cone Administartive Fellow will serve a 12-18 month term, based on opportunities that may arise and the Fellow's desired career path. The first year is comprised of rotations through various areas of the organization, a focus on major project work, and exposure to senior management, the medical staff, and board of trustees. The second year focus on direct administrative experience and continued professional development within the Health ystem. The Fellow will receive a competitive salary and fringe benefits.

Qualifications for this program include: excellent financial, analytical, and leadership skills; strong interest in a not-for-profit integrated system; and the ability to work independently and in team. Students interested in this program should submit the following application:

Ilaina Edison is the New Alumni President

''John Harney, current President of the Baruch-Mount Sinai Alumni Association, has announced his new position as Chief Operating Officer of the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver effective February 25th. John has served as the President of BMSAA for the past 18 months and has created an organizational structure to perform the functions of the Council with a new Mission Statement. The Council is planning a series of educational opportunities for the Alumni including some in conjunction with the Health Leaders of New York (HLNY). Due to the geographic distance, John is stepping down, but Ilaina Edison, current Secretary of the Council, has agreed to serve as Interim President. Sandra Iberger, class of 1996, will continue in her role of Vice President of BMSAA.

Ilaina Edison, class of 1990, is Vice President Operations, Specialized Services for Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) and has over 23 years of experience in the health care industry. She joined Visiting Nurse Service of New York in May 2001 as Vice President Performance Improvement and was promoted to Vice President Operations, Specialized Service in June 2005. In her current position, Ms. Edison is responsible for oversight of the organization’s specialty programs which include: the Children’s and Family Services, Long Term Home Health Care, Mental Health, Infusion, Visiting Physicians’ Program, and Rehabilitation Services. Prior to joining VNSNY, Ms. Edison had a successful 11-year career in management consulting with Deloitte and Touche, LLP, where she provided consulting services to senior management of leading health care organizations. Other past positions also include Home Care Nurse Coordinator for Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Staff Nurse through Assistant Nurse Manager at New England Medical Center in Boston. Ms. Edison earned her BS majoring in nursing from Binghamton University in 1982 and her MBA in health care management from Baruch College/Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1990.
